Dominoes is a tile-based game, and like dice or playing cards, it is a generic tool that allows the players to play a variety of games, including the popular activity of lining up the tiles and toppling them.
The earliest mention of dominoes is from Song dynasty China c1232–1298, and modern dominoes first appeared in Italy during the 18th century.
A European set of dominoes consists of 28 tiles, also known as 'pieces', featuring all combinations of spots ('pips' or 'dots') numbered between zero and six, as well as a blank tile.
Modern Dominoe sets commonly use a different colour for the dots of each different end value to help the players to find matching ends.
