Tuart Hill II by Kevin Robertson

Artist Statement: Tuart Hill is close to my neighbourhood and my whimsical association with the area connects it to Hollywood Los Angeles because of its sunny spacious look as well as being the former location of major television stations. Approaching the city one day I was struck by beauty of the row of palm trees and soon after returned to draw this view on site then made the paintings from my drawing. The synthetic colours refer to the 'hidden glamour' of the spot. I had been experimenting with fragmenting my painting into strips to echo the sense of parallax that is part of our visual experience. In Tuart Hill II however this 'striped' quality is made synthetic and is used for purely aesthetic reasons. - Kevin Robertson
