Vincenzo D'Ercole migrated from Italy in 1927, leaving behind his wife and baby son, Pasquale. Pasquale, and his mother Antonia, migrated to Australia in 1949. Eventually Vincenzo and his son, Pasquale and Pasquale's wife Elvira became market gardeners in Gwelup.
The family purchased their four acre property on Gribble Road from Ronnie Bogdanich. This was later demolished to make way for what is now the Mitchell Freeway.
Pasquale and Elvira had three daughters, who would also help out on the market garden. The main crops grown were cauliflowers, cabbage, tomatoes, celery and carrots.
Pasquale and Elvira's three daughters were the subject of a Stirling Stories oral histories video in which they talked about their early years on the family's market garden.
This photograph is Pasquale, standing on the trolley tracks on his property.
The D'Ercole family collection includes various tools used on their market garden as well as photos taken over many years, and was kindly donated by the family.
