Len Easton writes in his book 'Stirling City' page 33.
"The road, still known as Balcatta Road, was originally constructed of timber blocks and many of these were still there in the 1950's, when they were finally removed to make way for the present road form. Most blocks were used for firewood, but a few in better condition were incorporated into the site of the Old Mill at Mill Point, South Perth, at the instigation of Sir Lance Brisbane."
