Balcatta Senior High School was built in stages. Stage one opened for the academic year of 1967 with 240 pupils.
Planning for Stage two began in late 1967, and the resulting buildings created the space for 600 pupils.
Stage three enabled the school to house 1,000 students. In 1978, joint use of the high school facilities began, with the public able to use the school pool during the summer holidays.
Planning also began in 1978 for a community recreation hall, which was a joint project between the Education Department, the Community Recreation Council, and the City of Stirling. Use of the hall was shared between the school and the community.
