The Balga Theatre Society operated during the 1970s. In 1977 the President was Murray Parne, the Treasurer was Wally Silvester, and Play Co-ordinator was Daphne Popham. The Society had its inception in 1973/74 led by Hugh Rogers who had had extensive experience in theatre overseas. The first full length play was presented in the Balga High School Hall.
