Percy was a 24 year old hod carrier (brick carrier) from Osborne Park prior to enlistment. He embarked from Adelaide on board the HMAT Geelong on 18 November 1915.
His battalion was relocated to the Western Front in France during June 1916. It was at this time and after the Battle of Fromelles he was reported missing in action.
