Pte William Joseph Langdon left from Fremantle for active service on board the HMAT Anchises in September 1915. He was part of the 10th Light Horse Regiment.
He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for reasons stated:
“He has at all times acted with great gallantry and dash in action, and has carried out his troop duties in a most satisfactory manner….. In the bayonet charge of Es Salt, rain in Palestine on 30 April 1918, he was one of the first to reach the enemy and personally bayoneted three of the enemy.”
He returned to Australia on the Argyllshire on 1 August 1919, took up the Soldier Settler scheme and was later recorded as living in Maylands.
Reserve No. 27203 is named for him. This reserve is situated on Jeanes Road, Karrinyup.
West Stirling Baseball Club submitted this name to honour Mr Kevan Langdon (dec) who contributed as a player and member of the Club for 31 years. He was President of the Club from 1974-1989. Approved by the Geographic Names Committee at its meeting of the 21st March 1996.
