John, known as Jack, enlisted in January 1915 and joined the 16th Battalion. He listed his sister, Eileen as NOK as his mother had died the previous year, Eileen's' address was St Josephs Foundling Home in Leederville.
Jack landed at Gallipoli in the early evening of 25 April 1915, ten weeks before his eighteenth birthday. He was wounded and although he recovered, he was later discharged due to illness and returned to Australia in August 1916. He reenlisted in January 1917, but ill health led to another medical discharge. He married Daisy in 1921 and they had 2 boys. Jack went on to work for the Perth Road Board, now known as the City of Stirling for 34 years.
