The park's name was changed from Cornwall Reserve in 1981 to recognise the community contribution of the Breckler family.
Meyer Breckler migrated to Australia from Europe in the 1890s, establishing his family in Perth. In addition to his role as President of the Perth Hebrew Congregation, Mr Breckler contributed to many philanthropic causes.
Fanny Breckler was also influential in the area, establishing the shoe retail chain 'Betts and Betts'. She was noted for her support to charities and a scholarship was named in her honour.
