The centre was built around 2000 and has been named after long-time resident Mrs Emily Joyce Brushfield (nee Henderson). Mrs Brushfield was former postmistress of the North Beach post office, which was part of the Hendrson Store, located at the corner of Odo Street.
Description
The Henderson Environmental Centre is situated at the end of Groat Street, North Beach, within the Star Swamp Reserve. Designed as a ‘sustainable’ building, the facilities at the centre include an Ecomax toilets, large windows (for natural light), open vents, natural temperature control, rainwater tank, with environmental displays in the foyer.
Due to its unique location, the environmental centre is a popular venue for community events; school based educational programs, meetings, private functions, and the Department of Environment and Conservation’s ‘Nearer to Nature’ program.
Funded and supported by the Western Australian Tourism Commission, the Department of Sport and Recreation, Karrinyup Rotary Club and the Lotteries Commission.
