Located at 38 Ashbury Crescent, Mirrabooka, the Herb Graham Leisure Centre is a multipurpose sport and leisure centre with facilities such as the Acacia Room for hire, the Billabong Room for hire and the Kookaburra Room for hire. It has a major stadium with 1200 standing capacity, a minor stadium with 600 standing capacity and is located near the Mirrabooka Regional Open Space and Multicultural Centre.
Description
Named for Herbert Ernst Graham who was born in Narrogin in 1911. He went to school in Narrogin and Northam. In 1928, Graham joined the Western Australian Government Department of Lands and Surveys as a cadet draftsman. In the mid-1930s, he joined the Department of Forests. 31 March 1962 until 30 May 1973, he was Member of the Western Australian Parliament for Balcatta. From the 3 March 1971 until 30 May 1973, he was Deputy Premier of Western Australia. In March 1981, the local authority approved in principle the establishment of Stirling’s first Regional Community Recreation and Sporting complex. This would be named in the honour of former local Labor politician Herb Graham. Graham died on 17 March 1982 in Stirling, Western Australia.
