Joseph Camilleri

Joseph Camilleri was born in Gharb, in the island of Gozo, Malta. His family migrated to Australia when he was just over a year old. He married Margaret, and they have five children. He met Margaret in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, where he was in the service station and car dealership with his brother. They resettled in Perth in 1962 to give their children a better future through education. While in Perth, he operated the Neptune Service Station on Scarborough Beach Road.

Mr Camilleri has had a long career in local government, and was elected the mayor of City of Stirling, Western Australia in 1983-1984. Camilleri has been a justice of the peace since 1970 and was the first president of the Royal Association of Justice. He is also a founding member of the Maltese Professional and Business Association. Camilleri has received several honours, including the Paul Harris Award from the Rotary Club Scarborough chapter (1988), a meritorious award for service to local government (1993), and the Medal of the Order of Australia (1995).
