Mr Henry Birch was born in 1836 in England, United Kingdom. His family migrated to Perth, Western Australia, in 1841. In 1862, he married Ann Mary Ougden in Perth, and together they have 12 children.
A butcher by profession, Mr Birch, along with his brother Somers Birch and partner John Taylor, has been in the butchering and bakery business since 1866. They managed monthly accounts for Perth's leading households. In 1872, the household butchery and bakery business were bought by Mr William Osborne.
Mr Birch was elected a member of the Perth Road Board from 1871 to 1874.
