Mr. Archibald Gervase Clifton was born on 29 August 1858 in Brunswick Junction, Western Australia. He was the grandson of Marshall Waller Clifton, a pioneer of the Australind district. On 23 April 1884, he married Fanny Leonora Maria Hardey in Guildford, Western Australia, and they had four children together.
Before being elected to the Perth Road Board, Mr. Clifton was a goldfield official, well-known among early goldfields pioneers as Warden Clifton. As a young man, he was appointed Acting Warden at Hall's Creek and later served as Warden of Lawlers, Norseman, and other centres in Western Australia.
Mr. Clifton served on the Perth Road Board from 1885 to 1886.
He passed away on 24 April 1938 in Perth, Western Australia, at the age of 79. Mr. Clifton was twice married. His second wife, one daughter, Mrs. Amy Violet Christina Allen, and one son, Harold Robert Vivian Clifton, survived him.
