Mr Samuel Dawe was born in 1857 in Newent, Gloucestershire, England. In 1880, he married Elizabeth Donaldson in Adelaide, South Australia. Together, they have three children.
Mr. Dawe operated his business as a land and real estate agent from a small store at the corner of Guilford Rd and Seventh Ave in Maylands, Western Australia. In the early 1900s, there was significant activity in land sales in the area, with numerous mentions of Mr. Dawe's land and property transactions in the local press. The premises still exist today and are known as Dawe's Corner, 1903.
Mr. Dawe was also an active community member. He served as Chair of the Maylands Progress Association and was a member of the Perth Road Board from 1904 to 1909, and again from 1909 to 1910.
