Leonard Easton

Len Easton was born in Ora Banda (located near Kalgoorlie) Western Australia in 1915. He was educated at Perth Boys School.

He first became involved with local government when he joined the Perth Road Board in 1941. In 1956, he became Assistant Secretary of the Board, and when the Shire of Perth became City of Stirling, he became Assistant Town Clerk. He was the City of Stirling's Town Clerk from 1972 to 1977.

His thirty years of experience in local government was interrupted only by war service, enlisting in the Australian army in 1942.

His belief in the importance of community understanding of the functions and services of local governing bodies influenced him to speak and write on local government whenever the opportunity occurred.

Mr Easton is the author of 'A Pattern of Progress' (Perth, 1969), which was the Shire of Perth's entry for the Western Australian Local Government Week award. He also jointly compiled the City of Stirling's constitution and General By-Laws (Perth, 1971). Mr Easton is also the author of 'Stirling City' (Perth, 1971). This book is the history of the district of the Perth Road Board, later the Shire of Perth, and now the City of Stirling. He also produced a film titled 'A Tale of One City' (Perth, 1971) which is a visual account of the works and activities of the new formed City of Stirling.

He passed away in 1993.

Easton Lane in the suburb of Doubleview is named for him.
