Mr John Scaddan CMG was born on 4 August 1876 in Moonta, South Australia. At the age of 13, his family moved to Eaglehawk, Victoria, where he worked in the mines, read extensively, attended the Bendigo School of Mines part-time, and earned an engine driver's certificate. In 1896, he moved to the Western Australian goldfields and operated a stationary steam engine at a mine. He married Elizabeth Fauckner in 1900 in Boulder, Western Australia. Later, he married Henrietta Edwards, and they had two children together.
Mr Scaddan had a diverse career as a miner, engine driver, premier, and businessman. He was elected a member of the Perth Road Board from 1926 to 1934 and served as chairman from 1931 to 1934.
He passed away on 21 November 1934 in Perth, Western Australia, at the age of 58.
