Michael Smith was a builder and on of the founding members of the Perth Road Board.
He was the first chairman of the Board in 1871 and served on the board from 1871 to 1872 and 1874 to 1885.
Michael Smith was involved in the decision making around the alignment and construction of Wanneroo Road, one of the earliest timber-block roads in the area.
