His paintings, drawings and sculptures feature the key motifs of boat hulls and sail shapes, flags and human figures and represent humanity and its fates. Jones is most widely known for his public artworks that represent aspects of local history. In addition to Lina at the City of Stirling Civic Complex, sculptures include Eliza which stands in the Swan River at the site of the Crawley Baths and C.Y. O’Connor – Horse and Rider, in the water at Coogee Beach. As a lecturer at Central School of Art (TAFE) for many years, Jones played a key role in educating a generation of Western Australian artists. He is an energetic and passionate advocate for Western Australian sculpture and founder of ‘Sculpture at Bathers’ a biennial exhibition of sculptural works held at Bathers Beach in Fremantle. His work is held in the collections of Artbank, Art Gallery of Western Australia, Bunbury Regional Art Galleries, Central School of Art (TAFE), City of Fremantle, Curtin University, Edith Cowan University, Holmes à Court Collection, Ministry of Justice WA and Murdoch University.Date of birth1957
