As a proud Ballardong Noongar man, Greg’s artwork reflects both his Aboriginal culture and his effusive and warm personality. Working mostly in acrylics, his paintings are vibrant with bold colours layered in an abstract style using both paintbrush and palette knife to create texture and movement. Many of his works also include the Aboriginal dot painting style. Greg Barr is a talented Western Australian artist with intellectual disability. He has been a practicing artist since 2009. Supported by DADAA and his art facilitator, Greg has had several solo exhibitions and undertaken artist residencies. He has been awarded the Highly Commended Second Place Award in this year’ art awards, with the judges commenting, “This is a joyful artwork, with wonderful use of layers, opacity and transparency. There is a textile quality here that is reminiscent of silk batik. The work is highly gestural - a performative piece. There is also a sense of a journey through country, with its layers reflecting memory.”
