Mr. Eric Noel Newland and Mrs. Hannah Newland were both born in 1909. Mr. Newland was born in Leederville, Western Australia, while Mrs. Newland was born in Whitley Bay, England. The family resided in Watermans Bay for many years, particularly on Mary Street and Flora Terrace.
Photographed here, Mr Eric and Mrs Hannah Newland outside their house on 40 Mary Street, Watermans Bay during the second World War. Both are wearing steel helmets and carrying a bag containing gas masks which were to be used during bombing raids. Mrs Newland was appointed the Warden of Air Raid Precautions by the Western Australian Civil Defence Council during the WWII.
