Roy is a long term resident of North Beach and shared his memories of the Flora Terrace shops with local history researchers Chris Holyday and Joan Petroboni in 2025.
Roy Thompson recalled that a Doctor Creed had joined forces in the 1950s with a local Chemist, an Estate Agent and a North Beach electrician to build shops from the Castle Street corner, south to just before the later Triple 8 stores complex. His surgery was on the Castle Street/Flora Terrace corner. He later took in five more doctors. Much later again, this was replaced by a modern building, now Yelo cafe.
The Flora Terrace shops south of Castle Street then became popular from the late 1950s onwards. Roy Thompson has provided photos from the 1980s/1990s. Local residents recalled previous owners of these shops, as shown below (in Roy’s 1990s images), in a social media post in February, 2024. Katrina Nicole recalled that Fred Monger ran the hardware store from 1968 for ten years before selling to Roy Thompson. The Chemist was owned by Laurie Eddleston. Others fondly remembered the Triple Eight Deli (now Lawleys) and Tom The Cheap.
