As per a lot of European immigrants of the 1950's, my grandfather 'Non no' - Pasquale Staltari was seeking a better life for his family back in Calabria, Italy.
In 1954, he sponsored my father - Michele, to join him so that they could work together and help save for the money needed to get the rest of the family out to Australia. After spending many years in the south west of WA, working on the railroad, the decision was made to relocate to Perth in preparation for the migration of the rest of the family. In 1960, they purchased a house at 18 Haig Street Tuart Hill and this would be home for the Staltari family for close to 50 years.
The attached photo was taken in front of the house shortly after the purchase, with my Nonno on the left and my dad on the right, with some family friends.
The car was my dad's first new car, a 1957 FC Holden ute still on Harvey country plates. Through their hard work, in 1961, they were able to get the rest of the family out to Australia and live the Australian dream of owning their own home.
