Arthur William Mettam - Service Number: 26947 Arthur was the eldest out of the three brothers. He was working as a Railway Clerk before he enlisted. At the age of 30 he enlisted on the 17 January, 1916 in Perth. During the war he was a part of the 43rd Australian Field Artillery (AFA) Battery. After the war ended Arthur was discharged from the AFA on the 21 May, 1920. Alfred Mettam Service Number: 5706 Alfred was the second eldest son. He worked as a Wagon Builder before he inlisted. At the age of 27 he enlisted on the 18 September, 1915 in Perth. Alfred was discharged on the 16 March, 1919 due to being medically unfit to continue serving. Harold William Mettam Service Number: 26948 Harold was the youngest of the three boys. At the age of 18 he enlisted on the 3 March, 1916 in Perth. During the war he was a Bombardier apart of the 11th Australian Field Artillery (AFA) Brigade. Harold was servicing in France when he was admitted to a field hospital with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Harold died of his wounds on the 12 August, 1918 at the age of 21. He was buried in the Daours Communal Cemetery Extension, Daours, France. All three boys were the children of Arthur and Margaret Mettam. Margaret lived at 101 Railway Parade, Maylands during the war.
