The below story was entered with this photograph into the 2018 History and Heritage Awards:
On 14 June 1982, Brownie Guides of the 1st Scarborough Brownie Pack planted trees in what is now Munro Reserve. The activity celebrated the Year of the Tree and followed an earlier litter drive by the group. The City of Stirling provided trees for the Brownie Guides to plant in the park behind the Scarborough District Guide Hall where they met. The pack's activities for Year of the Tree, along with these photos and newspaper clippings were recorded in a scrapbook which was recently re-discovered in the Scarborough Girl Guide Hall archives. In this photo, Brownie Guides Cathy and Sally are preparing a tree for planting. A year after planting the trees, the Brownies went and found the trees that they had each planted, and recorded how they were growing. Most of these trees are still growing in Munro Reserve, and provided a backdrop to the games and adventures of Girl Guides 35 years later.
