Beans growing on the Arbuckle family's market garden on Duffy Road in Gwelup in 1934

This photograph was entered into the 2018 History and Heritage Awards with the accompanying text:

Beans being grown on farm in Duffy Road, Balcatta (as it was then).

The gentleman in the front was James Arbuckle (1879 - 1956). He and his sons had a large vegetable farm in the Balcatta/Gwelup area. They traded as Arbuckle and Sons. James built a house in Porter Street, Gwelup in 1918 that still stands today. The farm on Duffy Road was owned by his sons, Beresford and James, who was my grandfather. The farm in Duffy Road was eventually closed and sold in the early 1970s.
