Black cast iron with and the name "Singer", and a shellac finish. The gold decals of a sphinx are called "Sphinx" or "Memphis".
The cabinet has two drawers on each side, with brass handles. One brass handle is missing. Some of the veneer is missing from the front and there are dents on the surface. The removable cover, sometimes called a coffin top, has a diamond pattern on the front.Date createdc1896Historical details

The serial number (13791994) dates it to a batch of machines manufactured in Singer's Elizabethport factory in New Jersey, in the United States, with an allotted date of 1896.
