This monument commemorates the position of the Centaur, shipwrecked on the southernmost section of Little Island Reef on 9 December 1874. The wreck itself is located within the Marmion Marine Park, on the south-eastern side of Centaur Reef and is a popular dive site with locals. The memorial was designed by long-time Sorrento resident Kevin Hayes in 1979, and is listed on the Register of the National Estate.
