The Story of Stirling by Penny Bovell and Margaret Dillon

Visitors to the City of Stirling Civic Complex are greeted by a unique welcome mat in the form of concrete and glass ground-based artworks reflecting a sense of time and place and celebrating the history of Stirling. Images in the pavement reflect the progression of the City from rural to urban, coast to river and past to present. Spanning the recent European history of the City, the images are presented as a narrative - early historical images are set in concrete and post 1950’s images are embedded in glass. The artworks connect to the important social, cultural and environmental functions of the building.
