Watch Over You by Ben Jones

The two larger-than-life bronze figures of surf lifesavers that stand at the Scarborough Beach Amphitheatre honour the site’s long connection with surf lifesaving. The figures are intentionally simple, meant to commemorate the longstanding importance of lifesaving to local culture and identity. The female lifesaver was initially the first to be suggested as a model and her design was inspired by archival materials from Scarborough Surf Lifesaving Club held at the Battye library. The statues were unveiled in 2014 on the eve of the Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships, the largest sporting event of its kind in the world.
