Surface Tension by Jahne Rees

Surface Tension is a three-piece polished concrete sculpture that represents connection. This is connection between individuals, families, sporting teams, the wider community and the connection between people and the natural environment. The movement within the artwork also references transformation, such as the germination of a seed or the opening of a seedpod. Within the artwork is the idea of tension and balance: the old and the new, the solid and the fluid, the built and the natural. Mixed into the concrete is a photo-luminescent substance that charges in the sun and glows in the dark, creating an otherworldly effect at night.
