The larger of the two bodies of water on Carine Regional Open Space was named as Carine Swamp by R. Quin in a survey of Swan locations from 1865 to 1866.
The 20 hectare Carine Homestead was purchased by Alfred Okely from Edward Hamersley in 1871. The land was passed down through three generations of the Okely family, with James Milne Okely's homestead and orchard on the site in the 1920s.
