Lanater Seeds at Rocket Range by Ruby Morton Kngwarray

In this painting Kngwarray has painted bush seeds represented by the many coloured dots as well as Yerramp a women's story about digging for the honey ant. Kngwarray's beautiful paintings are a contemporary expression of the cultural knowledge she holds about her much-loved country around her home at Rocket Range. Kngwarray paints a range of elements of ceremonial life and Dreaming stories that are relevant to her clan and country so she usually gives the generic title of Country to her paintings. Embedded in her canvases are Awelye (women's ceremony) and her Dreaming stories which include Alpeyt (wildflowers) Boor-la-da (Rainbow Dreaming) Ilyarn Ilyarnayt Tharrkarr (sweet honey grevillea) and Yerramp. The seeds of the bushes that grow in the Utopia region and that the women use for nutritional and medicinal purposes are a discernible element of her intricately dotted paintings.
