Kool Korner

The building was constructed c1935 by Michael Georgeff as new shopping centre, with the delicatessen the largest of six shops.  A new kitchen was added to the building in 1941. 

By 1950 Bob Evans was listed as proprietor on the signage of the building which also advertised grills & fish, fruit & vegetables, Kodak film and picnic hampers. A separate business also run by Bob and Ada Evans in the 1950s, Ye Olde "Kool-Korner" Kafe, was located nearby.

The shop was later converted to Café Tyrol and by 1953 an additional two storeys were added to provide residential units, know as Tyrol Flats. 

In 2001 the building became a restaurant called Villa Bianchi, and in 2013 it was rebranded as the Sandbar (a restaurant) and the Torchbar (a small bar). In 2015, approval was granted to amalgamate the two tenancies as a tavern under the Sandbar name with some minor amendments to the eastern end of the north elevation.

The former Kool Korner building is a three storey rendered brick residential and commercial building, displaying elements of the Inter-War Functionalist style. The curved frontage makes it a prominent landmark in its corner position on The Esplanade at Scarborough Beach.
