Herb Elliott is a middle distance runner who was a world record holder. He ran 17 races under the benchmark 'four minute mile.' Elliott broke the world record, that he had set, winning the 1500 metres gold medal race at the Rome Olympics in 1960, by a margin of 20 metres.
