Linda Newell was a long term resident of the City of Stirling and was involved in many community groups and activities, including as founding member and President of the North Suburban Historical Society. Linda campaigned for the Mount Flora Regional Museum which was repurposed from the North Beach water tank and opened in 1988. Linda Newell coordinated the research and publication of the book Recollections from a shoreline in 1980. Linda had a keen interest in music, photography, nature and history establishing the WA branch of the Manx Society to research Isle of Mann genealogy. Newell Street in the suburb of Franklin, Canberra is named after her.
