The North Suburban Historical Society formed in April 1979 with Linda Newell as the founding president.

Some of the Society's many achievements include:

Successful funding to convert the water tank into a museum, opening in 1988.
Collection of artefacts and stories to preserve the history of the area.
Management of Mount Flora Museum until 2006, including maintenance of displays, education programs and community events.
Assisting with the development and construction of the Centaur monument.
Securing funding to restore 'The Cottage' in Carine.

After the Society disbanded in 2006, management of the museum and its collection was handed over to the City of Stirling.
