Mrs Venville talks about the Depression and the distress in the community, considers some remedies for unemployment, discusses welfare associations, World War Two and the AIF/Militia, air–raid shelters, troops in Perth, working during and before the war at Atkins Carlyle, Sandovers, Levinson’s, moves on to fashion, including prices, and shops such as Coles and Ahern’s, and advertising. Then Mrs Venville speaks about Maylands, including the market and a bank hold-up. Next, she discusses her interest in local government in the 1970s, including the Ratepayers Association, formation of the City of Stirling, her election in 1973 for Maylands Ward and the duties of a Councillor, being mayor, Council’s move to corporate management, recreation in Maylands, her retirement and move to voluntary work.
