Heritage site marker Tuart Hill primary school

Tuart Hill Primary School first opened in 1910 as Grenville State School. It was one of the earliest schools established in the district and was 
developed in response to rapid population growth in the area following the release of land at Grenville Estate. The school’s first head teacher 
was Mr S.A. Willis, and in its first year, 11 boys and 10 girls were enrolled at the school. In 1927, the name of the school changed to Tuart Hill 
Primary School. The main building represents the typical style of Inter War state school buildings built in the 1930s, featuring lineal blocks of 
classrooms arranged in a ‘U’ shape to enclose a large courtyard, with the main entrance located at the centre of the main façade (to the west).
