Arthur was 18 years old and living at 135 Harold Street, Mount Lawley when he enlisted in March 1916.
He was wounded in the leg and captured following fighting on 11 April 1917 near Bullecourt, France. He subsequently had his leg amputated but continued to be held as a POW until he was repatriated via Holland to England on 7 January 1918.
He arrived back home in Australia on 13 May 1918. He married Elsie Ashcroft in 1931 and died in 1949 in South Australia.
