Arthur was 18 years old and living in Mount Lawley when he enlisted in March 1916.
He was wounded in the leg and captured following fighting on 11 April 1917 near Bullecourt, France. He subsequently had his leg amputated but continued to be held as a POW until he was repatriated via Holland to England on 7 January 1918.
