Pte Samuel John Moore Samuel (Jack) was 19 years old when he enlisted in March 1917.
He worked for the family owned bakery in Mount Lawley located on Lindsay Street, where the building still stands today.
He survived the war and returned to Australia in 1919.
Samuel’s daughter Eleanor, at the age of 90, had just retired from being a volunteer at Mount Flora Museum in 2014.
