Pte Arthur William Mettam was a 30 year old railway clerk from Mount Lawley when he enlisted. He was shipped out from Melbourne in 1916 commencing his service with the rank of driver.
By request, he later joined the 4th Division Artillery as a gunner.He was wounded in action in 1917 and in 1918 was awarded a Military Medal for bravery shown in France.
