Harold was an apprentice blacksmith from Mount Lawley when he enlisted. He left Australia in 1916 and became a gunner as part of the 4th Division Artillery. In 1917 while fighting in Belgium, he was wounded and gassed. He later recovered and re-joined his unit only to be wounded in France during 1918 where he eventually died from his wounds.
