Pte Leonard O’Loughlin Leonard was a Clerk from Mount Lawley when he enlisted on 18 May 1915. He went on to become part of the 28th Battalion serving at Gallipoli, Egypt and France. He was killed in action in France on 29 July 1916.
It was reported that “that through some mistake in the Artillery preparation in the advance at Pozieres on the 29th the barbed wire in front of the German trenches was not as well demolished as it should have been, with the result that a very great number of men were held up here and could not get through the barbed wire.”
