Description
Des Penman was a local community leader and civic figure in the City of Stirling during the mid-20th century.
He was heavily involved in building up the community and establishing sporting and recreational facilities for the suburb of Nollamara when it was rapidly expanding as a post-WWII State Housing development in the 1950s and 1960s. To honour his lasting civic contributions, the local council named Nollamara's largest and most central park, the Des Penman Memorial Reserve, after him.
Today, the reserve on Carcoola Streetremains a massive local landmark, acting as the home ground for the Nollamara Amateur Football Club, as well as local soccer, tennis, and bowls clubs.
