The original school was opened on 11 June 1923. In 1934 it began operating from the home of Mrs Elliot, at George Street, with 28 students. On 8 April 1935, classes began in a new purpose built 30 foot by 20 foot classroom which was constructed by Mr Macquire for 357 pounds.
The name North Beach Primary School changed to "Hamersley" in 1946 but, to avoid confusion, reverted back to "North Beach" in 1970 when a new school was built in the new suburb of Hamersley.
