Arbuckle Reserve

This reserve was named after the Arbuckle family who owned market gardens around this area.

In 1896 James Arbuckle purchased Lot 40 of the Osborne Park Estate on which to grow vegetables. Two generations of the family worked the land with the business expanding in 1905 when an additional block was leased on the Balcatta Swamp.

In 1929 the family bought the land on Duffy Road on which this reserve is located, with brothers Beresford (Beb) Arbuckle farming Lot 86 and Jim (James) Arbuckle farming Lot 87 in partnership as J. Arbuckle & Sons.

The family contributed to the local community with involvement in the Perth Road Board, Osborne Park Agricultural Society and Vegetable Growers Association (VGA).
