Charles Riley Memorial Reserve

Charles Riley Memorial Reserve was named after Charles Owen Riley, who at the age of 32, was drowned when going to the aid of three girls caught in a dinghy in heavy surf at Watermans Bay in 1954.

Bishop Charles Lawrence Riley dedicated the Reserve to his son's memory on 23 September 1958 and the Reserve was officially opened by Neil Campbell Hawkins, member of the Perth Road Board for the Hamersley Ward.

A recreation reserve over the site has been in existence since 1913, when 53 acres of land was set aside for the purpose of a recreation. The land was excised from an extensive Government Reserve which had been set aside for a public utility. Since this time the shape and size of the reserve has undergone some changes. In 2008 the City of Stirling conducted extensive consultation, research and planning that culminated in Council's adoption of the Charles Riley Memorial Reserve Master Plan.
