John Bearne Hawkins

John Bearne Hawkins Senior was born in 1872 in Dawlish, Devon, England. He attended Teignmouth Grammar School and joined his father's business in 1896. Notable buildings he constructed include Albany Bell’s confectionery factory on Guildford Road and the Forrest Park Methodist Church in Mount Lawley. He operated from a three-acre site on Claisebrook Street, East Perth.

In 1901, he married Ada Margaret Donnelly in Perth, Western Australia. They had ten children together. 

Mr. Hawkins served as Chairman of the Perth Metropolitan Markets Board, President of the Master Builders’ Association (1914-1915), and was a member of the Perth Roads Board for 24 years (1907-1931), representing the Coastal Ward. 

He enjoyed spending time at his holiday house in North Beach and was an avid fisherman. He passed away on October 21, 1950, in Perth, Western Australia.
